AlexRenew works closely with the City of Alexandria and its citizens to keep construction impacts to a minimum. As much as possible, our work is designed to be integrated into the surrounding urban community. To help keep our community informed about our work, we provide a list of current construction projects.
On Tuesday, November 5, from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., AlexRenew crews will be working at the Four Mile Run Pump Station, next to the Cora Kelly School for Math, Science, and Technology. They will be cleaning out wipes, rags, and other unflushables that end up in the pump station tank that collects dirty water from local homes, schools, and businesses in our area.
Many of the items being removed with this repair work are labeled “flushable” even though they are not. Unfortunately, even wipes that are labeled "flushable" are not actually flushable. Once flushed down the drain, they do not break up as advertised, and they clog up pipes, which then must be cleaned out to prevent service disruption. If you have small children and rely on these wipes, please dispose of them in the trash instead of the toilet. Here are some other items that should not be flushed down the drain or toilet.
The repair work our crew is doing on November 5 will ensure that our underground sewer system continues to run well. There will be some odors and noise while we are performing this work. Thank you for your patience while we service our equipment.
