Karen Pallansch, Chief Executive Officer

Karen currently serves as chief executive officer for Alexandria Renew Enterprises (formerly the Alexandria Sanitation Authority), one of the most advanced water reclamation facilities in the United States. As chief executive officer, she leads a team of more than 100 employees on a 35-acre campus that renews 13 billion gallons of wastewater per year. She has served in her current capacity since October 2005 and has worked at AlexRenew for more than 20 years.

Liliana Maldonado joined AlexRenew in November 2017 as the director of RiverRenew, a clean water program that mitigates potential sanitary sewer overflows from wet weather events and addresses combined sewer overflows from the City of Alexandria’s combined collection system. Currently, she is Deputy General Manager for Engineering and Planning and is responsible for the development and implementation of AlexRenew's Capital Improvement Program including RiverRenew. She wants the Alexandria community to know that she is proud to lend her expertise to the RiverRenew program in order to achieve healthier waterways for Alexandria.

Caitlin Feehan joined AlexRenew in March 2018 as the Program Manager for RiverRenew, the program to construct a tunnel system in Alexandria that will prevent millions of gallons of sewage mixed with rainwater from reaching our rivers and streams. In this role, she oversees the day-to-day management of the planning, permitting, and outreach for RiverRenew. Caitlin wants the Alexandria community to know that she is proud to be part of this historic program and looks forward to cleaner, healthier waterways in Alexandria.

Steve is responsible for assessing and approving all Plant Impact Requests submitted from the Construction Contractors. Steve is responsible for planning and coordinating equipment and process shutdowns to ensure minimal to no interruptions to Plant Operations. Steve started at AlexRenew in March 1989, and previously held positions of Control Systems Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor. Steve wants the Alexandria community to know that AlexRenew is committed to the Board’s vision of operational excellence, reducing our carbon footprint, and being an environmental steward in the community.

Christine joined AlexRenew in May 2018 as the Director of Finance after a nearly 15-year career as a public finance investment banker.  As Director of Finance, Christine manages AlexRenew’s accounting and financial reporting, procurement process, budgeting, banking, investments, adherence to financial policies, and development of capital borrowing programs.  Christine wants the Alexandria community to know that she was so excited to join the innovative team of professionals at AlexRenew that she relocated to the City to pursue the job.

Asif is responsible for managing day-to-day operations, as well as long-term strategic planning within the Information Systems department to support the “Utility of the Future” vision. He brings over 18 years of experience supporting both public and private sectors. Asif wants the Alexandria community to know that AlexRenew uses innovative and cutting-edge technology to provide cleaner waterways for the environment.

Kaiser is responsible for the design and administration of procedures that sustain the cybersecurity of AlexRenew’s data, and access to its technology and communications systems. Kaiser wants the Alexandria community to know that AlexRenew uses advanced cybersecurity technologies to protect our water cleaning facility so we can focus on providing cleaner, healthier waterways in Alexandria.

Adaora joined AlexRenew in May 2018 as an Accounting Manager. She brings with her over 20 years of accounting, financial reporting, and management experience.  Adaora manages the accounting team, ensuring that both day-to- day accounting and monthly/annual financial reporting are timely, relevant, accurate and in accordance with GAAP/GASB principles. She wants the Alexandria community to know that her priority is to meet the firm’s strategic outcome objective of public engagement and trust, and to ensure that financial information provided for public consumption is trustworthy, valid, and invaluable to decision making.

Hari brings nearly 17 years of process experience to AlexRenew. Hari works to ensure AlexRenew’s WRRF processes are efficient and optimized in order to ensure we continue to meet strict water quality, sustainability and operational excellence goals. Hari wants the Alexandria community to know that AlexRenew is proud of the work we do in protecting our local waterways and the environment and we constantly strive to make a difference in the community through innovation and continuous improvement of our processes.

Maryam joined AlexRenew in 2018 as the purchasing agent. She has over 24 years of public and private procurement experience. Maryam is responsible for procuring goods and services in an open and fair manner, so AlexRenew can receive the best value for money spent on behalf of its constituents.  Maryam wants the Alexandria community to know that she wants to be an instrument for Board’s vision of effective financial stewardship and commitment to exceptional outcomes.

Wendy is responsible for maximizing the strategic use of human resources and has operational oversight of benefits, compensation and recruitment. Wendy began her career with AlexRenew in September 2011 after previous Human Resources Manager positions at Therma-Tru Doors and Simmons Manufacturing.  Wendy wants the Alexandria community to know that AlexRenew has an experienced, competent workforce, focused on providing great service to you and your family.
